This 41 Chevy got a really cool radiator cover. It was to be chrome plated, so it had to be perfect. It was made in three pieces and tig welded together then hammered and dollied to perfection. What you see in the progress photos is not chrome plating but simply polished cold rolled metal. We do this to check for the slightest of imperfections that would be apparent once chrome plated.
Starting with paper patterns
First two pieces shaped up and fit, clamped in place and ready for the center piece to be shaped
The side pieces have been polished and closely examined for imperfections that would show when chrome plated.
Final piece shaped and in place.
All three pieces tig welded together and final finished ready for the chrome plater.
Back from the chrome plater with a nice “year and make” etched into it.
